Logistics, supply chain and procurement operations looking to fill contract or fixed-term positions know they are well served using Cast UK. We source the best managers and directors for every job on offer and provide clients with high-calibre shortlists to focus in on.
Fixed-term contracts are actually the first choice for many of our candidates, not just last-resort jobs. That means we're seeing more and more of our most experienced applicants opting for this employment model, and it's through their own volition. We find that some people actually thrive on the knowledge that their contracts have an end point, and good short-term employees are of course a priceless asset to any company that uses them. A good reputation feeds back into their employability and salaries.
That said, fixed-term contracts are also used by some applicants as rungs on the employment ladder or ways of moving away from positions where they feel no internal promotional opportunities exist. Such people are no less committed to their roles, of course; ambitious people simply don't let the grass grow around their feet.
For employers, a key requirement for a fixed-term contract comes during absence of staff, be it planned (maternity, sabbatical etc.) or unplanned (injury, illness or compassionate leave). During times of corporate upheaval, for example when opening a new depot, fixed-term contracts may be given to managers to take care of things back at base while the existing managers are working at the new site (or vice versa). There are also the demands of peak periods, which most industries have, or where the employer is itself employed only on a fixed-term basis.
Candidates seek shorter-term contracts for a host of reasons, too. Some simply don't like to become too embedded in the culture of one company. Others feel that wide and varied experience looks better on their CV. Also there are candidates who have other family or personal commitments that militate against long-term contracts.
While some people will see a position they like and apply for it despite its short-term nature, it's important to note that this doesn't account for every applicant. There are excellent candidates who've based their career on short-term contracts.
Everyone who works at Cast UK has a background in logistics, procurement and supply chain at managerial or executive level, so most of them have themselves been employers as well as applicants. This brings them fantastic insight into both sides of the recruitment picture which, combined with our reputation within our industries, allows them to offer an unparalleled service that is appreciated by candidates and employers alike.
As a candidate, our consultants work to ensure your next role adheres to all of your requirements, taking the time to discuss your career aspirations, long-term goals, suitable opportunities, and compatible businesses.
