Supply chain management company Kerry Logistics could be stepping up its logistics recruitment after kick-starting construction of an automotive parts factory in the Chinese city of Kunshan.
The organisation is building a 33,700 square metre facility on behalf of one of its clients – Daimler – in China as part of plans to improve its supply chain network.
William Ma, managing director of Kerry Logistics Network, commented: "The client has demonstrated trust in Kerry Logistics by partnering with us on this project and this also lays the foundation for long-term strategic co-operation between our two companies."
It comes after the company launched a scheduled bi-weekly trucking service running between the Chinese cities of Shenzhen and Hanoi. Its subsidiary arm, Kerry Asia Road Transport, will operate its Less Than Truckload service between the industrial cities of south China and north Vietnam.
Kerry Logistics and Daimler are not the only organisations looking to expand in emerging markets, with DHL announcing today (December 3rd) that it has appointed a new Asia Pacific vice president of business development for the automotive, engineering and manufacturing sectors. It's a bit of a mouthful of a job title, but Jeroen van Oekel has been named the person to take it on.
He will be focusing on expanding the contract logistics organisation's operations in key markets across the Asia Pacific region and is said to have "vast experience" in providing industry solutions for the automotive, engineering and manufacturing sectors.
Paul Graham, chief executive of Asia Pacific at DHL Supply Chain, said: “It has been reported that between China, India and ASEAN, there will be two billion people by 2020 that are of driving age and sufficient earning power.
"We are gearing up to meet this demand and hiring leaders such as Jeroen, who understand the pain points of customers in these sectors and can bring optimal value to them by providing the right best-in-class, tailor-made solutions," he added.
