FTA promoting careers in logistics for women

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has taken steps to further promote careers in logistics for women by supporting one of the headline events of the industry awards season and expanding its partnership with everywoman. Everywoman has worked for a number of years with companies in the transport and logistics industry to promote leadership roles for women. However, this continues to be an issue – with women making up half of the UK workforce but taking just 25 per cent of the jobs in transport and logistics. By expanding its relationship with the company, the FTA hopes to promote more women into the industry. Theo de Pencier, chief executive of the transport organisation, explained that the collaboration will see the FTA becoming a title partner for the everywoman Transport & Logistics Awards 2013. The awards aim to celebrate the role that women play in transport and logistics, as well as the success that individuals have enjoyed during the last year – with a view to encouraging more females to pursue logistics jobs. He said: "FTA is delighted to encourage forward thinking companies that are in turn committed to encouraging diversity to the freight industry, and working further with 'everywoman' will offer FTA opportunities to expand that work. "The key for our industry is to be able to access a wider talent pool to be able to meet its need for good quality staff in whichever role it needs to fill." For 2013, the awards will be split into numerous categories with highlights including Rising Star of the Year, Driver of the Year, Industry Champion, Team Leader of the Year and the highly-coveted Warehousing Award.
