Jack Daniel's owner releases responsibility report

Jack Daniel's owner Brown-Forman has just brought out a new corporate responsibility report. Called Global Spirit, it discusses the organisation's global commitments and features case studies about areas like sustainability and relations with staff. It talks about the progress the company has made to meeting the targets of its Environmental Sustainability Roadmap, which it wants to hit by 2020. It says it has beaten its targets when it comes to energy efficiency and emissions of greenhouse gases. This is because of alterations to the fuels its distilleries use, as well the building of energy efficiencies, it explains. Meanwhile it says it should progress more quickly to reduce wastewater, it order to hit its goals. It's also published a Global Human Rights Statement, alongside some guidelines for suppliers. The publication, which can be viewed on the Forman website, has been named in reference to the organisation's increasing efforts in the areas of alcohol responsibility and worldwide business in places outside the United States, where it is based. The document looks at issues around responsibility in several world markets, via a 'Global Guide to Alcohol Responsibility'. It highlights partnerships and efforts which are working to help promote responsible drinking in places like the UK. Alongside several other alcohol producers Paul Varga, Brown-Forman's CEO, has announced commitments on reducing harmful alcohol consumption. That includes commitments in the area of cutting underage drinking and innovating products in a responsible way. Mr Varga said: “We also recognize industry action alone will not be sufficient to ‘solve’ the problems of harmful drinking. Accordingly, we will seek to accelerate the pace of positive change and engage industry peers and other potential influencers not yet at the table."
