If you’ve ever been within 100 metres of a pub quiz, you’ll know that Berwick Rangers is the only English football club to play in the Scottish league, and thus that Berwickshire is right on the England-Scotland border. The county, however, was definitely Scottish, and although it still exists in locals’ hearts, it is technically the eastern part of the Scottish Borders county.
Like much of the Scottish Borders, the Berwickshire area is sparsely populated; indeed its historic county town, Duns, is home to fewer than 3000 people. The area still retains close links with its former county town Berwick-on-Tweed, and even through even that town only has a population of just over 10,000, it represents the best place to look for jobs or similar positions. The nearest large concentrations of populations are Edinburgh and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, both of which are more than an hour away by road.
