Role Profile
My client, a growing online retailer, is looking to appoint an Assistant Merchandiser to join their friendly head office team based in Manchester. Reporting into the Head of Merchandising, you will support in a wide variety of tasks, although predominantly merchandising and admin based, there will be the occasional opportunity to be involved in ad-hoc procurement and product development tasks therefore the ideal candidate will be flexible. You will be confident and pro-active with a desire to learn and the ability to communicate with others at different levels across the wider business. Although training will be given on Excel, this position will ideally suit someone who is analytical and good with numbers possessing a minimum grade C at GCSE. This position is open to those with prior experience in a similar role as well as strong, driven graduates. The office is modern, bright and open plan with excellent facilities and easily commutable by car, bus or tram. Responsibilities

  • Analysis of stock reports in order to generate suggested order quantities for approval
  • Raise purchase orders, chase up sign off and send to suppliers. Feed-back any price differences, changes in lead-time etc. to the relevant business area
  • Negotiate delivery terms and manage suppliers proactively to ensure deliveries arrive according to agreed time scales
  • Create and maintain items on stock management system accurately
  • Liaise with the warehouse team to ensure timely and accurate booking in of stock
  • Own the defective process, ensuring speedy resolution of any issues with deliveries including receiving discrepancies, faulty or missing stock etc. by liaising with the supplier, product owner and warehouse
  • Request credit notes/ replacement stock for any defective items, chase suppliers for a timely and agreeable solution and escalate any recurring issues to the product owner
  • Manage the Far East supply chain in order to ensure payment requests are dealt with efficiently and correctly and liaising with shipping agents to ensure deliveries are in-line with the critical path
  • Process invoice queries in a timely fashion by liaising with relevant Buyer and/or contact supplier to prevent payment delays. Ensure PO reauthorized in line with sign off process
  • Create and manage availability reports and delivery schedules, ensuring good communication to relevant teams within the business
  • Develop and maintain a close relationship with the warehouse in order to identify any areas for improvement in current business processes
  • Use analytical skills to identify slow moving lines and proactively work with product owners to clear down stock



Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience working within a similar role would be preferable, but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential to interact with all teams and levels of the business
  • Ability to manage own time effectively and prioritise tasks according to business needs
  • High standard of numerical and analytical ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel would be advantageous although training on the software will be provided
  • Commercial awareness coupled with knowledge of critical path management would be advantageous
  • A team player, willing to learn and take ownership with a professional and 'can do' attitude
