My client, an award-winning and leading supplier, is looking to appoint a bright, socially confident, hardworking and enthusiastic FMCG Buyer to join their growing head office team based in South Yorkshire. Established in the 1970's, the business has long-standing relationships with many major manufacturers and source quality branded products for supply into the international market as well as major UK retailers including B&M, Poundland, TK Maxx, Superdrug and Home Bargains. This role will sit within the Health & Beauty team, therefore a passion for Cosmetics and a genuine desire to drive this already successful category forward is essential. Having recently invested in new £1m state of the art offices, this is an exciting time for an FMCG Buyer to join a lively, dynamic and growing team! The reason for this vacancy is team expansion.

Role & Responsibilities
Reporting into the Buying Director, the role will involve the following:

  • Analysing offers to present to the Buying Director
  • Sourcing FMCG product lines/ best deals from various suppliers
  • Liaising with other departments within the organisation i.e. Finance regarding payment of suppliers and Sales regarding selling of stock
  • Managing and visiting key suppliers
  • Business development - making initial contact with potential new suppliers and inputting data into supplier relationship database
  • Representing the business at trade fairs in the UK and overseas

Skills, Experience & Personal Attributes

  • Buying experience in a Retail or Wholesale environment is essential
  • Experience buying FMCG products or a passion for Beauty products is essential
  • Strong trading mentality
  • Good analytical skills, a keen eye for detail and be confident at making decisions
  • Customer facing and well presented with excellent communication skills
  • Good time management skills with an ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office (including working knowledge of spreadsheets)
  • A passion for learning and a desire to succeed
  • A drive to deliver strong results and progress within a business
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team
