Head of Compliance
Salary circa £60,000 depending on skills and experience

Role Profile:
Our well known retail client is looking for a dynamic Head of Compliance to join their prestigious company. The role is predominantly about managing and implementing their Global Trade Customs compliance in the relevant countries. It also includes responsibility for all of the imports and exports, managing a team, whilst optimizing end-to-end Supply Chain Lead times and keeping freight costs to a minimum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full responsibility for optimizing customs compliance and efficiencies in the markets that the business operates internationally
  • Full understanding and responsibility for HS code classification for both UK and US stock
  • Full understanding, with support and delivery, of end to end Supply Chain objectives
  • Support the rest of the business on inbound flow of stock, ensuring the critical path is maintained for each season, and any delay or issue is clearly communicated
  • Developing and monitoring team performance, including regular analysis to make sure targets are achieved and superseded when possible
  • Participate in supply Chain Projects & implement business best practice, including using the most tax efficient customs are adopted, whether that's IPR, customs warehousing, etc.
  • 3PL management and regular reviews on both KPI performance and freight costs, with documented and published minutes
  • Co-ordinating and executing freight tenders (ITT) as required
  • Proactive freight consolidation to maximise container utilisation and reduce freight costs
  • Manage and ensure full compliance with HMRC Import and Export relationships, ensuring the business is up to date on current legislation and taxation
  • Develop export strategy for both EU and ROW for wholesale, retail and web channels
  • Work with the rest of the business to communicate changes/ delays/ costs and performance results for each department with guidelines on improvement
  • Supplier compliance - recording weekly performance of inbound suppliers. Producing a 6 monthly report on performance against SLAs. Writing to suppliers to advise if within SLAs or what improvements required
  • Continually evaluate compliance related processes and recommend changes to improve efficiencies and cost effectiveness

Skills & Experience

  • A can do approach that achieves results
  • Ability to develop and mentor a team
  • A proven record in managing a large scale import operation in-house for a UK fashion retailer
  • Experience managing and implementing customs warehousing
  • Experience with Grosvenor for customs warehousing applications
  • Strong understanding of trade and duty agreements between the UK Europe and the rest of the world
  • Knowledge of KPIs and their application
  • Experience in setting and managing budgets
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
  • Able to promote and manage change
  • Effective organisational and time management skills, inclusive of prioritising workload
  • Effective influencer and negotiator
  • Confident decision making and problem solving
  • Able to interpret statistics and data effectively
  • Good working knowledge of EXCEL
