Role Profile
My client, a successful retail business looking to appoint a Senior Merchandiser to join their head office team based in Yorkshire. You will be a very commercial thinker, taking a wider view of the business as opposed to an independent merchandising function. In this role you will enjoy autonomy and responsibility for the planning team. The role will ideally suit someone with experience in Central Merchandising, FMCG/ perishable goods or fashion, however full training on products will be given. This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially aware, hungry, dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join a down-to-earth, friendly and fun head office team within a growing retailer with plenty of opportunity to develop and make the role their own.

Key Responsibilities

  • To support the Commercial Director in maximising sales across all brands and with expansion into new markets.
  • Planning product ranges and preparing sales and stock planned in conjunction with the buyer
  • Ownership of KPI reporting on sales and margin by product category
  • Liaising with the Commercial Director and Sales and Operations Director to ensure day to day practice is in line with the overall business strategy
  • Create a forecasting plan quarterly to identify areas of opportunity and risk
  • Managing all pricing and margin analysis on all product categories
  • Monitor best sellers and ensure availability on all core products
  • Have a keen eye and basic understanding of google analytics and interest in the website layout
  • Maintain an awareness of competitors pricing and performance
  • Ensure the buying and merchandising strategy is in line with marketing spend
  • Suggest new areas of opportunity and product development
  • Occasional travel visiting suppliers in the UK and Europe
  • Communicating and negotiating with various suppliers
  • Opportunity to implement new practices and processes and help shape the business strategy



Skills, Experience & Personal Attributes

  • Several years' experience in merchandising, either online or central store merchandising
  • Experience in an FMCG, perishable or seasonal business would be advantageous
  • You will be an extremely numerate individual who has a keen eye for detail
  • You will be very commercial in your thinking and approach with the ability to take a wider view of the business as opposed to an independent merchandising function
  • You will be an ambitious individual who is keen to progress and develop
  • You will be passionate about your role and development
  • You will have strong communication skills with the ability to influence
  • You will be PC literate, particularly in Excel
  • Understanding of merchandising best practices
  • Interested in learning and not afraid to push back/ push own ideas
  • Pro-active, can conduct own analysis
  • Hands-on and not afraid to muck in and support other areas in the business
  • Excellent communication skills
