Role Profile
Our client, a market-leading retailer where values are at the core of what they do, is looking to recruit a Buyer to join one of their food categories worth approx. £80m. Reporting into the Category Manager, you will work to deliver sales and profit targets for own category strategy by effective sourcing of products and development of key stakeholder relationships to maximise business competitiveness. You will be passionate about food retail and be working in a similar role/ environment with experience of categories such as cake, bread etc. being desirable. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven FMCG Buyer with a strong trading mentality looking to join a market-leading and well-respected retailer with strong values and an excellent reputation within the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and delivering sales and profit targets for own category
  • Conducting effective negotiations with suppliers and key stakeholders to maximise buying terms so that budgeted financial targets are met and pricing strategy for category is delivered
  • Developing the range for the category in line with agreed guidelines and take action to reduce waste and maximise sales targets for category area
  • Listing and de-listing products in order to take account of local product purchase preferences so that wastage targets are met
  • Reviewing the category for NPD and promotions, in order to take the lead in the market
  • Managing the category area so that legal, policy, processes and guidelines are delivered within the regulatory compliance requirements
  • Planning and delivering competitive profitable promotions in line with category strategy so that sales plan opportunities are maximised
  • Creating and developing effective relationships with key internal stakeholders to ensure the benefits of cross-functional relationships are maximised i.e. cross-functional agreement of forecasts



Skills, Experience & Personal Attributes

  • Buying experience within a similar business is essential
  • Food buying experience is essential (Bread and Cake would be advantageous)
  • Experienced in planning and delivering projects
  • Ability to forge strong working relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to cope with the pressure of working in a fast-paced trading environment
  • Commercially aware with strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload whilst juggling multiple tasks
  • Strong numerical/ IT skills
  • Awareness of compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Team player with excellent communication skills
  • A passion for food retail and genuine interest in the industry/ what competitors are doing
