Role Profile
Cast UK are looking to recruit an experienced Category Manager for one of our leading customers who is an established FTSE 100 business. Reporting directly into the Purchasing Director, this role will take full purchasing responsibility for one of the key categories within our client's business that has operational sites throughout the UK.

Ideally coming from a strategic purchasing environment in FMCG / Food Retail environment, the ideal candidates will be comfortable building and maintaining strong supplier relationships whilst also seen as a product expert.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and Co-ordinate all activities related to procurement of goods
  • Review product and product subcategories with portfolio
  • Evaluate commercial offers, customer tender support, product inventories,
  • Category management
  • Determining customer demand
  • Analyzing quotes and bids for suitability, Cost reduction & Product availability
  • Evaluating samples, products and services & Presentation of category plans to senior management.
  • Reduce COGS.
  • Developing category plans (immediate, mid and long term)
  • Identifying new products to meet market trends and review existing product portfolios
  • Assessing new suppliers both financial and operational suitability to meet expectations and standards
  • Negotiating prices & trading agreements
  • Interpreting reports and predicting future sales
  • Aiding in delivering operational efficiencies
  • Aiding Stock control
  • Product benchmarking and tendering
  • Budgeting
  • Identifying and reacting to any changes in customer demand
  • Maintaining relationships with existing suppliers while seeking new ones
  • Attending trade events
  • Regular meetings with existing suppliers to manage the category.
  • Support sales team in tender opportunities and recruitment of new customers
  • Supplier trading plans
  • Performance management (OTIF KPIS etc.)

Skills & Experience

  • Previous buying experience in an FMCG environment
  • University Graduate who learns quickly and is used to absorbing large amounts of information.
  • Industry knowledge and contacts would be advantageous
  • Ability to resolve situations quickly and effectively
  • Ability and confidence to put forward new designs and ideas and create concepts with clients.
  • Honest and Enthusiastic
  • A perfectionist with the ability to comply with clearly defined rules and regulations
  • Effective numeracy, literacy and word processing skills (GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above or equivalent).
  • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • A proven track record of building robust client relationships
  • Generating and "closing" new business
  • Ability to negotiate potentially complex contracts
  • Competent in Microsoft Office products i.e. excel.
