General Manager
£80,000 - £90,000 + Car + Bonus
Harlow, Essex

Role Profile
Our client; a market leading FMCG business, is looking to appoint an experienced and dynamic General Manager. To be successful you will have in-depth knowledge of the logistics industry within an FMCG environment, preferably food, strong financial acumen, high energy levels, and excellent customer relationship skills. Perhaps above all else, the ideal candidate will have highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills with an ability to motivate those around them to perform to the highest possible levels.

Key responsibilities:

  • Total responsibility for all on site operational activity
  • Ensuring high level of customer service to all sectors of the business
  • Proactive interaction with sales colleagues to drive the overall business plan
  • Seeking out 3rd Party / Backhaul opportunities
  • Establishing a positive working culture, driving high levels of colleague engagement and retention
  • Development of management potential on site, creating leaders for the future
  • Accountable for setting and achieving budgetary and operational KPI's
  • Driving the Health and Safety agenda
  • Ensuring site compliance with Company policy and all other legal and ethical obligations
  • Provide senior support to the wider region or wider business as necessary.

Skills & Experience
With a recognised logistics management career to date; you will have proven success within the food service industry, working in a warehousing and distribution environment at senior management level. You will have a consistent record of delivering a consistently high operational performance in a temperature-controlled environment. You will be financially and commercially aware in order to translate business needs to achieve the measured results. You will need to have extensive experience of managing a large diverse work force in a time critical environment requiring demanding levels of productivity and accuracy in line with contract requirements.

Required skills:

  • Several years' experience running a complex and large DC preferably in Food / FMCG
  • Experience of optimising warehouse workflows
  • Ideally a CPC holder or with strong knowledge of transport legislation
  • Demonstrably high levels of financial and commercial acumen
  • Calmness under pressure
  • Natural leadership qualities, previously managing significantly large teams through times of change
  • Proven passion for customer relationship management.
