General Manager
£70,000 - £75,000 + Car + Benefits

Role Profile
Our client, who is a market leading logistics business, is looking to appoint an experienced and dynamic General Manager. To be successful you will have in-depth knowledge of the logistics industry within an FMCG environment, preferably food, commercially aware, high energy levels, and excellent customer relationship skills. Perhaps above all else, the ideal candidate will have highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills with an ability to motivate those around them to perform to the highest possible levels.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Total responsibility for all on site operational activity, maintaining client service level agreements.
  • Ensuring high level of customer service to all sectors of the business.
  • Proactive interaction with warehouse and transport ensuring delivery of overall business plan.
  • Implementing new contracts ensuring a smooth transition from previous providers.
  • Establishing a positive culture, driving high levels of engagement and employee retention.
  • Development of management potential on site, talent management and succession planning.
  • Accountable for setting and achieving budgetary and operational KPI's
  • Driving the Health and Safety policies, limiting accident risk.
  • Ensuring site compliance with Company policy and all other legal and ethical obligations.
  • Provide senior support to the wider region or wider business as necessary.

Skills & Experience
With a recognised and extensive logistics management career to date; you will have proven success within the food distribution industry or FMCG, working in a warehousing and distribution environment at senior management level. You will have a consistent record of delivering a consistently high operational performance in a temperature-controlled environment. You will be financially and commercially aware in order to translate business needs to achieve the measured results. You will need to have extensive experience of managing a large diverse work force in a time critical environment requiring demanding levels of productivity and accuracy in line with contract requirements.

Required skills:

  • Several years' experience running a complex and large distribution centre preferably FMCG background
  • Commercial and financial acumen, highly numerate with proven analytical skills.
  • Experience of optimising warehouse workflows, able to utilise performance management techniques effectively.
  • Calmness under pressure.
  • Natural leadership qualities, previously managing significantly large teams through times of change
  • Proven passion for customer relationship management.
