Role Profile
Our client, a global home textiles business, is looking to appoint a Merchandiser to join their UK team based in Manchester. The UK arm of this well-respected manufacturing business trades via their own website as well as supplying trend-led and quality home textiles such as bedding into some of the UK's largest retailers including Tesco, Shop Direct and Primark. Due to rapid expansion, the business is moving into brand new larger offices and are keen to employ a bright and enthusiastic Merchandiser to join their close-knit and friendly team. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a similar role within textiles or fashion and have a genuine interest in the product area as well as exceptional Excel skills. This is a fantastic opportunity for a hardworking team-player, keen to progress their career in merchandising, to join a successful business with the opportunity to develop and grow as the business expands further.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurate forecasting of stock within the designated product range based on business trend analysis and research
- Agreeing estimates for new launches of products with retailers to ensure that all items are received in time
- Placing orders with the mill in a timely manner to ensure that customer delivery requirements are met. Orders placed by either sea or air freight depending on delivery time scales
- Regularly communicating internally to clarify priority products for shipment and where required tracking until delivered, where crucial delivery dates apply
- Working as part of a team to ensure that all deliveries arrive at the specified time, being fully aware of any delays or stock shortages. Liaising with customers as and when required
- Keeping up to date with all reports requiring completion including retailer stock reports, comments reports, at risk reports, new range forms and sales reports
Skills & Experience
- Experience working in a similar role with home textiles or fashion is desirable although strong graduates with a placement year in merchandising will be considered
- Strong Excel skills with experience using formulas is essential
- Experience dealing with overseas mills, ideally working within the home textiles market
- A good understanding of lead times, the critical path and forecasting
- Confident in making decisions and suggesting calculated risks
- Strong customer awareness and understanding
- Professional and well-presented with excellent communication skills
- Passionate about product, strong market and brand awareness
- Exceptionally organised, methodical and efficient
- Strong time keeping & ability to meet stringent deadlines
- Eager to work as part of a team as well as using own initiative
- Flexible and willing to work outside core hours (9-5) when necessary due to business demands (deliveries etc.)
