Role Profile
Our client, who are a family owned company in their 2nd generation of ownership, is looking to recruit a Transport Manager for their operation based in Lancashire. Reporting into the General Manager you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of an effective and consistent service to a number of existing contracts, you should be able to create new commercial customer relationships, be outgoing and commercially astute, passionate and bring energy to the team you will be managing. Have strong commercial acumen as well as operational skills, also you must be able to show revenue generation on a traffic sheet.

Skills and Experiences:

  • CPC would be highly desirable
  • Experience working in General Haulage is essential
  • Strong commercial acumen is high proirity - proof of working with clients, accounts and new buisiness
  • Strong people management and development skills
  • Track record with driver management and overseeing transport compliance
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
  • Experience of growing a depot and office, developing teams is paramount

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively organising planning of the daily routes, loads out and back loads, briefing drivers and looking after a fleet of vehicles.
  • To manage all direct daily reports ensuring they have met the required targets
  • Maximise revenue streams and working towards revenue target on weekly/ monthly basis
  • Give guidance and motivation to the teams as required to achieve service excellence to the highest standards, exceeding expectations where possible.
  • Ensure Company Health and Safety procedures are carried out and that all drivers adhere to driving legislation always.
  • Manage all fleet vehicles in line with Company compliance and policies of the Ministry of Transport Regulations.
  • Reviewing and improving productivity through effective provision of planning.
  • To maintain all documentation and ensure compliance with legal requirements regarding transportation, Health & Safety and Environment, and implementation of transport strategies.
  • Development of transport team/operation with a scope to grow the team and grow this business as your own.
  • Incident and accident investigation and be the first point of contact for any problems that may arise.
