Health and Safety Advisor

Midlands (with travel to company sites and customer sites)

The opportunity

Our client is a well-established engineering and field service business. They are looking for a Health and Safety Advisor to join their team. You'll report to the Health and Safety Manager and support the day-to-day running and improvement of health and safety across offices, workshops, warehouses, field engineering teams and project sites.

This is a hands-on role with room to grow. As your knowledge and qualifications develop, you'll take on more inspections, audits, investigations and advisory work.

Key responsibilities

• Keep health and safety records, registers, action trackers and reports up to date
• Carry out workplace and site inspections, and audit engineers' safe working practices
• Help investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, including root cause analysis
• Prepare and review risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work
• Support fire safety, first aid and facilities compliance arrangements
• Review contractor RAMS and competency documents
• Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and safety briefings
• Support ISO 45001, 9001 and 14001 audits and the Safety Committee

About you

• Organised, methodical and comfortable keeping accurate records
• Confident raising and challenging unsafe practices in a constructive way
• Good written and verbal communication skills, and competent in Microsoft Office
• Experience in an admin, compliance, facilities, engineering or H&S support role is useful
• A full UK driving licence is essential
• NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely or a Level 3 SHE qualification

Desirable

• IOSH membership
• First Aid at Work, Fire Warden or COSHH training
• Experience with H&S compliance software and ISO-certified systems
