Role Profile

Bunzl UK & Ireland supplies, through a number of specialist distribution businesses, a range of more than 100,000 products, including food packaging, disposable supplies, catering equipment, healthcare consumables, and cleaning and safety products to supermarkets, retailers, hotels, restaurants, caterers, construction companies, healthcare providers and other users.

CAST UK are delighted to be currently looking to recruit a Senior Accountant on a 7-month fixed-term contract.

As a key member of the General Accounting team, the Senior Accountant will oversee a team of accountants, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely and high-quality financial reporting across Bunzl UK & Ireland operating companies. The role will be responsible for reviewing financial outputs, monitoring team performance, ensuring compliance with financial controls and supporting the ongoing development of FSSC processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and support a team of accountants, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of general accounting activities and financial reporting.
• Review and validate financial reports, reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis and period-end close activities, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Monitor the quality of the team's output, identifying discrepancies, resolving issues and ensuring reporting meets required standards and deadlines.
• Coordinate period-end close activities, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and in line with agreed timetables.
• Provide guidance, support and technical expertise to team members, helping to resolve complex accounting queries and improve performance.
• Support internal and external audits, responding to queries and ensuring appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.
• Ensure robust financial controls are maintained and adhered to, promoting compliance with internal policies and accounting procedures.
• Support the transition of ERP systems, finance and accounting processes, and management accounting activities into the Finance Shared Service Centre.
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy, streamline processes and enhance operational efficiency, making recommendations to the line manager.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with Bunzl UK & Ireland Finance teams, operating companies and other internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure a high level of service is delivered to internal customers and business partners.
• Promote Bunzl's Health, Safety and Environment ethos and contribute to a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Skills & Experience Required

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven experience overseeing, supervising or reviewing the work of a team of accountants.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, including period-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries and financial reporting.
• Experience reviewing financial reports and ensuring the accuracy, completeness and integrity of financial information.
• Experience implementing and maintaining robust financial controls and accounting procedures.
• Strong understanding of ERP systems and finance/accounting systems.
• Experience working within a Finance Shared Service Centre or a multi-entity finance environment would be advantageous.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities, tight deadlines and high volumes of transactions in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to guide colleagues and work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
