Role Profile

Cast UK are partnered with an established North West business to recruit a Demand / Production Planner to join their friendly and close-knit team. This is excitingly a newly created role for you to put your mark on, the primary focus being to take ownership of optimising the flow of product from order placement through to final sale. Reporting into the Head of Merchandising, this is a key role where you will work cross-functionally with Production, Retail, Wholesale and Merchandising as well as the supply chain to plan a wide range of activities.

You will utilise your knowledge of production planning and materials booking to help control and plan the manufacturing as although this business is an established manufacturer, they are looking for someone who can take charge of forward planning and confidently flag risks and opportunities. This is a great opportunity to put your stamp on a new role, leading a small team and putting new processes in place.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Merchandiser to ensure that style-fit-colour forecasts and intake plans are developed into detailed production plans for suppliers that support the on-time delivery of products.
  • Manage raw material bookings at several key pre-season points in the Critical Path. Convert finished product requirements into raw material requirements and develop suggested booking plans that mitigate risk but also ensure on-time product delivery.
  • Track materials ordering and expected dates, ensuring all are running as planned, highlighting slippages and risks as necessary.
  • Plan seasonal throughput with suppliers and the factory well in advance to enable the optimising of economies of scale. Maximise cost saving through sea freight through exceptional forward planning.
  • Alongside the Merchandisers, build continuity product buy plans with overseas suppliers and release to factories in a timely manner. Work towards suppliers producing stock ahead of time to be called off.
  • Work with the Production Co-Ordinator to provide weekly performance data on factory output vs plan. Flag risk to future production or opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Manage surplus materials held within the supply base, co-ordinating with Design and selling channels to develop cost effective strategies to clear through raw material exposure.
  • Work with Merchandising, the Retail Allocator and Retail Area Managers to plan and agree Retail inventory levels across all grades of stores.
  • Maintain and manage Retail replenishment on/off tracker, reporting on levels of Retail replenishment that is switched off. Highlight opportunities and risks and develop communications as required to keep Retail informed.
  • Through insightful analysis and future planning look to achieve our strategic objective of reduced retail stock holding without compromising on sales and margin.
  • Working with the Merchandisers, develop disposal strategies for dormant/old season stocks. Work alongside selling channels to secure activity to clear product at the strongest margin possible.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis as required within the department.

Experience, Skills & Personal Attributes

  • Experience in a similar demand planning / production planning role is essential
  • Experienced in planning production, forward planning and flagging risks and opportunities
  • An understanding of machine capacity issues
  • Highly organised and analytical
  • High level of IT ability, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Team player who can also work autonomously
  • Enthusiastic with a positive attitude
