Logistics Analyst - Cannock

Logistics Analyst jobs

The logistics analyst will be in charge of setting up and/or running systems within a complex logistics operation to gather data on the complete process of movement and warehousing of goods and seeking efficiencies in them. The work could well require a good deal of travel to overseas or national terminals, depots and warehouses to see processes first hand and gather information on operation.

The gathered data will be used to work out means of creating more efficient processes and systems, often through the use of sophisticated computer systems, but also through the analyst’s instinct for the task. The analyst will be reporting regularly to senior management, and must be able to identify targets for efficiency makeovers and back up the plans with hard facts and figures.

Explaining actions and helping to implement major structural and operational changes will help to keep the logistics team informed and involved. The search for new efficiencies is a never-ending task, but with an analytical approach, it can be successfully done to the benefit of the company. Hence, good analysts are highly valued members of any logistics operation.

The skills required

Needless to say, an analyst must possess excellent analytical skills and be able to have an instinct for positive changes as well as the ability to perform complex calculations when planning out potential improvements. She or he must be able to keep on top of many lines of data collection; this information might be gleaned from delving into operational data or the analyst might oversee a team to gather information. Therefore good IT skills and man management are essential.

Logistics analysts are often required to travel, perhaps internationally, so a commitment to the company will be a demonstrable necessity.

Logistics Analyst Jobs in Cannock

Cannock is one the constituent parts of Cannock chase in southern Staffordshire, a district with a population of around 100,000. The town is more strongly connected with the cities of Birmingham and Wolverhampton to the south and south west respectively, however, although Stafford is just 9 miles (14 km) to the north. Cannock is connected to the rest of the country via the M6 (and the M6 Toll, which passes directly to its south) and the M54 can be joined just to the south west as it heads westwards towards Shrewsbury.

Like much of the Black Country, Cannock went through a period of massive growth during the Industrial Revolution, with the area being best known for its coal mines which helped fuel the industry going on to the south. However the decline followed the same pattern, and unusually, Cannock’s de-industrialisation was accompanied by a falling population rather than an effort to diversify. The town is now an averagely built-up town with several areas of woodland, parks and golf courses dotted around. There is light industry to the south, but generally speaking Cannock is a commuter town.

Though Cannock is not large in itself, it is located close to three large concentrations of population, and this means that anyone looking for Logistics Analyst work might do well to cast their net a little further afield, perhaps to Birmingham, Wolverhampton or Stafford, or perhaps even Stoke or Derby. That said, all towns have logistics and supply chain needs, so there’s no reason why something local might come up.
