Interim HSE Manager (Inside IR35)
Location: Oldham
Reporting To: Managing Director
Hours: Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week
Contract Type: Interim (Inside IR35)
Rate: £350 per day
Duration: 3 months (potential for extension)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Interim HSE Manager to lead and strengthen our Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management framework during a period of transition and improvement. This interim role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and standards while embedding a proactive HSE culture across our busy manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach to reviewing current systems, conducting gap analyses, supporting ISO 45001 certification readiness, and driving immediate and sustainable improvements in HSE performance.
Key Responsibilities
HSE Strategy & Compliance
- Lead and support the enhancement of the company's HSE management systems.
- Conduct gap analyses and implement action plans to achieve ISO 45001 certification.
- Ensure compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental legislation and standards.
- Provide expert HSE advice and guidance to senior management and operational teams.
Documentation & Risk Management
- Develop, review, and maintain all HSE policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Oversee incident reporting and investigation, ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support the development of practical and proportionate risk control measures.
Engagement & Culture
- Promote and embed a positive HSE culture across the workforce.
- Deliver targeted HSE training, briefings, and toolbox talks.
- Collaborate with departmental managers and the Quality function to integrate HSE best practices.
Auditing & Reporting
- Plan and conduct internal HSE audits; coordinate external audit preparation.
- Monitor and report on key HSE performance indicators.
- Benchmark against industry standards and recommend opportunities for improvement.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Proven experience in an HSE management role within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Demonstrated experience preparing for and achieving ISO 45001 certification.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive gap analyses and implement improvement plans.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent HSE qualification.
- Experience working with integrated management systems (ISO 45001 / ISO 14001).
- Strong IT and reporting skills (MS Office, audit tools, etc.).
