Are you an Engineering Manager who enjoys being close to the operation, leading from the front and making a real impact on site performance? We're working with a growing manufacturing business in Cornwall looking to appoint an Engineering Manager to take ownership of maintenance, reliability and engineering performance across a busy production site.
This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where downtime, safety and operational performance really matter. You'll be leading a multi-skilled engineering team, driving improvements across maintenance and reliability, and working closely with production to keep the site running efficiently.
The role would suit either an experienced Engineering Manager or a strong Engineering Supervisor or Shift Lead to step up into a broader site leadership position.
Role Profile
You'll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the engineering function, making sure machinery, equipment and site services are running safely, reliably and efficiently. You'll oversee planned maintenance, breakdown response and engineering improvements across the site, while helping move the operation towards a more proactive and reliability-focused maintenance culture.
This is a role for someone who's comfortable being on the shop floor, supporting the team through challenges, solving problems quickly and building strong relationships across production, quality and HSE.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a multi-skilled engineering team across mechanical and electrical maintenance.
- Manage planned preventative maintenance, reactive engineering and continuous improvement activity.
- Drive plant reliability and reduce downtime through root cause analysis and long-term fixes.
- Support engineering projects, installations and equipment upgrades across the site.
- Manage contractors, permits to work, RAMS and engineering compliance activities.
- Help create a strong safety-first culture across engineering and site operations.
- Support CAPEX planning and engineering investment projects.
Key Skills & Experience
- Previous experience leading engineers or maintenance teams within manufacturing or process environments.
- Engineering Qualification to Degree/HNC/HND level or equivalent.
- Strong experience of maintenance systems, PPM, TPM and breakdown management.
- Experience of delivering CAPEX or plant upgrade projects.
- Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety Legislation and
- Experience in chemical, FMCG or consumer products manufacturing.
- Confident communicator who can influence at all levels.
- Experience working within fast-paced production environments.
- Strong Mechanical and Electrical engineering background.
- Experience with continuous improvement strategies e.g. Lean / Six Sigma.
- Experience with liquid or reliability engineering is desirable.
- Confident working with KPIs and report writing.
