Bunzl Catering Supplies, part of the Bunzl Catering & Hospitality Division, is the leading distributor of disposables, packaging and hygiene solutions to the hospitality and catering sectors in the UK. Delivering to a variety of customers in both the private and public sector from small independent cafe owners, local health trusts and schools to national hotel and restaurant chains.

As the exclusive recruitment partner for Bunzl Catering, Cast UK are leading the search for a Transport Manager to be based from their DC in Bristol. The incumbent to this role will take responsibility for execution, direction, and coordination of all transportation matters within the branch, whilst managing the Transport Controllers and taking charge of every transportation item. Reporting into the Operations Manager, the Transport Manager will be responsible for directing all transportation activities, whilst monitoring all transportation costs to ensure it falls within budget. This is an extremely exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a distribution operation with suitable fleet profile, utilising outsourced solutions where financially/environmentally appropriate to satisfy customer demand.
• Ensure all vehicles and drivers conform to relevant health and safety and Road Traffic legislation
• Ensure route planning and vehicle loading is appropriate and suggest improvements where possible
• Maintain and negotiate with all third parties
• Contribute to the development and communication of transport policies and procedures
• Remain current with latest transportation technology systems and procedures
• Advise management team on the interpretation and likely impact of developments in
• Support the Operations Manager as required, acting as a senior manager within the site
• Plan, develop, organize, direct, manage, and evaluate the operations and budget of transport department.
• Develop and implement profit improvement plans and change management plans
• Prepare management recommendations, such as proposed fee and tariff increases or schedule changes
• Manage fleet profile including numbers and types of vehicles, mileage and running costs in line with business requirements.

Skills & Experience

Candidates are sought who have a passion for operational transport and who have experience of working within a fast-paced transport operation. We are searching for someone who is a perfectionist, capable of recognising areas of improvement and influencing decision making.
