Are you an experienced Yard Manager looking to take ownership of a busy, fast-paced operation? We're working with a well-established manufacturing business seeking a hands-on leader to oversee the safe, efficient and compliant operation of its site yard, ensuring materials, vehicles and people move seamlessly across the operation.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business where you'll play a key role in driving operational excellence, maintaining high safety standards and supporting production through effective yard management.
The Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of a busy manufacturing yard, leading a small team whilst ensuring the efficient movement of inbound and outbound vehicles, effective storage of work-in-progress and finished goods, and the safe operation of yard equipment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading all yard operations to ensure a safe, organised and efficient working environment.
- Managing inbound and outbound vehicle movements, deliveries and collections.
- Driving a strong health & safety culture, ensuring compliance with HSE legislation and company procedures.
- Conducting regular safety inspections, investigations and toolbox talks.
- Managing work-in-progress, raw materials and finished goods stored within the yard.
- Overseeing forklift and yard equipment inspections, maintenance schedules and operator compliance.
- Managing manufacturing waste streams and ensuring environmental compliance.
- Working closely with Production, Planning, Dispatch and Transport teams to optimise material flow.
- Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
About You
To be successful you'll have:
- Previous experience managing a busy yard, warehouse or logistics operation within manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation and operational compliance.
- Experience coordinating transport providers, vehicle movements and site traffic management.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent organisational skills.
- Good IT skills for reporting, stock tracking and operational records.
- Counterbalance forklift licence (essential).
- Side loader experience and NEBOSH qualification (or working towards) would be advantageous.
