Senior Operations Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Operations Manager to join a busy warehousing and logistics operation in Cambridgeshire.

Following a change in the site's senior management structure, the business is looking for an experienced operational leader to provide additional senior support and take ownership of key areas of the operation.

This is a hands-on leadership role offering genuine autonomy. You will be trusted to assess the operation, identify opportunities for improvement and implement your own ideas, rather than simply maintaining the status quo.

The Role

You will take a visible leadership position across the site, working closely with the existing management team to improve operational performance, standards and culture.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading day-to-day warehouse operations across a multi-shift environment.

• Managing, developing and motivating operational teams.

• Driving improvements in productivity, efficiency, service levels and operational standards.

• Establishing a strong culture of accountability, engagement and continuous improvement.

• Reviewing processes and identifying opportunities to improve the operation.

• Maintaining high standards of health & safety, compliance and site governance.

• Monitoring KPIs and using data to drive operational performance.

• Managing labour and resources effectively.

• Supporting stock accuracy, inventory control and warehouse processes.

• Managing P&L performance, budgets and operational costs.

• Supporting internal and external audits.

• Working closely with internal stakeholders and customers to resolve operational issues.

• Supporting the implementation of new systems, processes and technology.

• Providing advice, challenge and support to the existing senior management team.

• Being prepared to get involved operationally and lead from the front.

About You

We are looking for an experienced operational leader with a proven track record of successfully managing a warehouse, logistics operation or similar environment.

You will ideally have:

• 5 years' senior management experience.

• Proven experience managing people and delivering operational performance.

• Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory management and WMS.

• Experience managing health & safety and compliance.

• Experience of P&L management, budgeting and cost control.

• A strong track record of continuous improvement.

• Excellent people leadership and performance management skills.

• The confidence to establish standards and hold people accountable.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

• A practical, hands-on approach to leadership.

3PL experience is not essential. The priority is someone who understands how to successfully run an operation, lead people and improve standards.

Experience with the site's specific systems is not required, although experience using WMS, TMS and data-led operational systems would be beneficial.
