Warning - Scam alert! Scammers are impersonating Cast UK - Please read!

Blog

The security of our candidates and clients is taken very seriously at Cast and we have recently been made aware of a scam using our companies name on WhatsApp.

Scammers are contacting people using various numbers on WhatsApp claiming to be Cast UK consultants for phishing purposes.

It is important to us that you are aware that:

  • Cast UK will never request information via WhatsApp.
  • Our consultants will never try to contact you through WhatsApp.
  • All communication from Cast UK, and our consultants, will be via email, text or phone call.

Why are scammers impersonating Cast UK?

The increasing popularity of WhatsApp as a business communication tool, has increased the number of scammers impersonating legitimate businesses on the platform. These scammers are trying to take advantage of Cast UK's excellent reputation, and trying to trick contacts into sharing personal information, or worse, sending them money. Here's how you can tell the difference between a potential scammer and a Cast UK consultant:

  • The message was unexpected - We don't normally contact people out of the blue, and on the rare occasion we do, it won't be via WhatsApp.
  • The message contains a link - Scammers looking to trick into sharing your personal information will often send a link to malware or deceptive websites.
  • The message is urgent or pushy - Scammers use pushy language to make you feel like you need to respond quickly
  • The offer sounds too good to be true - If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is!
  • There are spelling and grammatical mistakes - if it contains a lot of grammatical or spelling errors, is in broken English and sounds unprofessional, the likelihood is it's not legitimate.

What should you do if you are contacted on WhatsApp by Cast UK?

If you receive a WhatsApp from someone claiming to be from Cast UK, please be very careful as it could be a scam.

Here's what to do if you receive a WhatsApp message:

  • DON'T reply to the message
  • DON'T share any personal information
  • DON'T save the number that messaged you
  • DON'T open any links in the message
  • DON'T call the number that messaged you

DO CALL US on 0161 825 0825 to check whether a message is legitimate, we will be more than happy to help!

What do these messages look like?

Here's an example of a scam message:

"Hi there. I'm Eunice, recruiter from Cast UK ,I get you contact from our company's database. Currently our company has a variety of vacancies to choose from and some flexible roles. May I share you more details?"

(Notice the grammatical errors)

Here is an example of the scammers' response once the person had replied:

"This is our package.

PT: £32-£38 per hour

FT: £900-£1100 per week

- Located in the United Kingdom

- A flexible application is available to accomodate your schedule

- No contact or investment is involved

- British Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Visa Holder (T&C)

- Over 20 years of age

The company is currently expanding internationally through advanced technology. Therefore, an encrypted wallet (TRC20) is required for security purposes"

One common tactic is to create fake WhatsApp accounts that resemble a business's account. They may use a company's name, logo, and contact information to make it appear as though they are a legitimate representative of our business. They may also use publicly available information about CAST / CAST UK, such as our website URL or social media profiles, to create a more convincing impression.

Please contact us on 0161 825 0825 or email hello@castuk.com if you have received a suspicious message similar to the above.
