Assistant Shipping Manager
Location: Wirral
Salary: £37,000 benefits
Hours: Mon-Thurs 8:30am-5:00pm, Fri 8:30am-3:00pm (flexibility for occasional overtime required)

CAST UK are looking for a proactive Assistant Shipping Manager to support logistics operations, ensuring seamless international shipping, compliance, and team coordination. If you're an organised logistics professional with leadership experience and a keen eye for detail, this is your chance to make an impact within a dynamic global business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shipment Coordination - Manage end-to-end freight logistics (air, sea, road), liaising with carriers to ensure on-time, cost-effective deliveries.
  • Team Leadership - Supervise and train a packing team, optimising workflows and maintaining quality standards.
  • Compliance & Documentation - Prepare shipping documentation (invoices, packing lists, customs forms) and ensure adherence to international trade regulations.
  • Stakeholder Communication - Work closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, and internal teams to resolve issues and provide shipping updates.
  • Process Improvement - Identify cost-saving opportunities and streamline logistics operations.
  • Systems & Reporting - Use WMS/ERP systems (Microsoft Navision preferred) to track shipments and generate performance reports.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: 5 years in shipping/logistics, including at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Freight Expertise: Knowledge of FTL, groupage, and parcel freight methods.
  • Leadership: Ability to motivate and lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong attention to detail with the ability to resolve delays and ensure order accuracy.
  • Tech-Savvy: Experience with WMS/ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics NAV is advantageous).
  • Customs Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Incoterms 2000, Customs Declarations, Brexit customs procedures, and UK HMRC rules.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Supply chain certifications such as CILT, IATA, and ISO9001.
