Location: Isle of Man or Skelmersdale
Salary: £50,000 Benefits
Type: Full-time (35 hours per week)
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Operations Manager to join a growing logistics business. This role sits at the heart of the organisation, acting as the key link between Operations, Finance, HR, and external partners to ensure the business runs efficiently, compliantly, and profitably.
You'll play a pivotal role in overseeing commercial processes, supporting people management, driving system improvements, and delivering insight to support business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial, Finance & Compliance
- Oversee billing processes, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing
- Manage proof of delivery (POD) and customer compliance requirements
- Supervise sales ledger and debt control, reporting on debtor performance
- Oversee claims management for lost/damaged goods, including root cause analysis
- Support pricing reviews, rate setting, and surcharge management
- Monitor profitability across routes and operations, providing actionable insight
- Ensure compliance with terms of carriage and industry standards
Systems & Process Improvement
- Act as the internal expert for the freight management system (TMS)
- Drive system improvements and support ongoing implementation projects
- Ensure data integrity, process consistency, and user adoption
- Lead small-scale system and process improvement initiatives
- Support training and continuous improvement across teams
HR & Team Management
- Provide day-to-day HR support across operational and office teams
- Manage, develop, and support team members
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations
- Monitor workforce trends including retention and performance
Operational & Customer Support
- Provide hands-on support to resolve operational challenges
- Oversee customer onboarding, ensuring smooth setup and handover
- Coordinate implementation of new business and customer changes
Compliance & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a key contact for audits, health & safety, and external partners
- Support compliance activities and internal reviews
- Deliver reporting, analysis, and project support to senior leadership
About You
- Proven experience within freight, logistics, or transport
- Strong understanding of commercial, billing, and operational processes
- Experience with freight or transport management systems (TMS)
- Confident managing people and supporting HR-related activities
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and drive decisions
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Strong communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally
