General Manager - Operations

£70,000 - £75,000 Car Allowance & Benefits | Surrey

Our client, a growing contract-led services business based in Surrey, is appointing a General Manager - Operations to professionalise and scale its operation while building real commercial momentum. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will own operational performance, contract profitability and the development of the management team.

This is a hands-on senior leadership role for someone who has grown revenue, built better systems and developed people, not simply maintained an established operation.

The role

• Grow revenue from existing customers by identifying additional services, locations and contract opportunities.
• Support the Managing Director on new business, including proposals, pricing and mobilisation plans.
• Take overall accountability for safe, professional service delivery across all sites and contracts, including vehicle operations, route activity and driver compliance.
• Own the operating P&L, with a clear focus on contract profitability, margin improvement and cost control.
• Design and embed practical operating systems, KPIs, reporting routines and controls that support scale, consistency and accountability.
• Lead, coach and hold Contract Managers accountable, building management capability and succession depth.
• Act as a senior operational contact for customers and manage supplier and subcontractor relationships to the required standards.

About you

• Senior operational management experience in a multi-site, contract-led environment such as logistics, transport, facilities management or field services.
• Full P&L responsibility, and comfortable with budgets, margin, cost control and performance reporting.
• A track record of growing revenue and improving commercial performance that you can evidence with numbers.
• Evidence of building systems, processes and KPIs that made a business more scalable and predictable.
• A proven developer of managers who raises standards and creates accountability.
• Strong senior-level customer relationships and a constructive approach to resolving operational issues.
• A hands-on, visible and decisive leader, used to working closely with an owner or Managing Director in a growing business.
• A full UK driving licence, and living within approximately 45 minutes' travelling time of the Surrey base.

The package

• £70,000 - £75,000 basic salary
• Car allowance
• Benefits
• 45 hours per week over an average of five days, with flexibility to meet operational needs
• Based in Surrey, with travel to customer and operational sites as required
