An established and rapidly growing third-party logistics business is seeking an experienced Transport Operations Manager to join its senior leadership team. Reporting directly to the Transport & Regional Director and working closely with the board, you will be responsible for leading all transport activities, ensuring exceptional customer service, strong financial performance, and full compliance with health, safety, and legislative requirements. You will play a key role in driving operational excellence, continuous improvement, and supporting new business integration.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and manage all transport operations to deliver best-in-class service within agreed budgetary limits.
· Prepare, challenge and control annual P&L budgets, with full accountability for financial performance.
· Establish, monitor and improve operational KPIs to drive efficiency, service and cost control.
· Review operational performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives aligned to strategic objectives.
· Ensure full compliance with O-Licence requirements, WTD, drivers' hours, vehicle maintenance, and all H&S legislation.
· Maintain compliance with ISO management systems, BRC, TASCC and other industry accreditations.
· Lead, motivate and develop a large operational workforce, building a strong, customer-focused culture.
· Ensure accurate invoicing of all chargeable activity and manage credits through proper investigation and authorisation.
· Fully utilise Transport Management Systems and operational IT to maximise performance and reporting accuracy.
· Work closely with the Business Development team to support new business opportunities, customer rate reviews, and cost-effective transport solutions.
· Maintain strong communication with senior stakeholders and internal departments including Finance, HR, IT and Quality.
· Ensure adherence to network and pallet distribution rules and timely, compliant vehicle loading and dispatch.
Experience & Skills Required
· Proven experience in a senior transport or operations management role within a 3rd Party Logistics environment.
· CPC National qualification (mandatory).
· Strong people management capability with experience leading large operational teams.
· Demonstrable track record of driving continuous improvement and operational efficiencies.
· Sound commercial and financial acumen with previous P&L responsibility.
· Excellent influencing, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
· Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation; NEBOSH or IOSH qualification desirable.
· Experience working in both office-based and operational environments.
· IT literate with hands-on experience of TMS, WMS, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
· Experience operating within pallet networks and compliance-driven environments (desirable).
