Role Profile
Our client, who is a national FMCG business, are looking to recruit an experienced Assistant Transport Manager to join the team in Cannock. To ensure the Transport team is effectively managed and control the operation in accordance with budgetary constraints, whilst achieving best possible level of service to internal and external Customers.

Skills & Experience

Reporting to the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • As directed by the Transport Manager, manage all areas of the Transport Department to achieve service excellence to the highest standards, exceeding where possible.
  • To assist in the production of key performance indicators relating to the Transport Department as required by the Head of Operations.
  • Plan and control all resources within the team to ensure costs are within agreed budgets
  • Control the maintenance of all company equipment, including vehicles, to a high standard to ensure all relevant records are maintained in order to conform to ministry legislation.
  • Maximise vehicle efficiency to minimise costs in terms of kilometres travelled and KPI'S.
  • Have robust communication with other departments, to improve customer service and costs in line with budgets.
  • Working with the Transport manager, site customer and excellence manager, to ensure all policy and procedure is in place and up to date and all drivers up to date on all aspects of their training, including health and safety, SSOW and food standards.
  • Ensure daily Health and Safety checks are completed and all drivers defects reports are completed, checked and actioned daily. Ensure all accidents and near misses are investigated in full detail, in a timely manner, and take actions to prevent a re-occurrence. Promote health and safety best practises and employee wellbeing.
  • Ensure all drivers are supported to meet all legal requirements of their role including maintenance of all documentation relating to tachographs and driver hours and working time directive and infringements associated to these. To inspect regularly and take action as required if irregularities occur.
  • Ensure the Company procedures relating to Discipline and Grievance issues are correctly implemented. Participate in Disciplinary / investigatory meetings acting as Investigating Officer as necessary. Actively seek to solve Grievance issues promptly.
