Role Profile
A leading horticultural business is seeking an experienced Logistics Manager to take ownership of its UK transport operation.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a senior role with real autonomy. You will manage the movement of imported products through a multi site UK network, ensuring delicate, time sensitive stock reaches major garden centres, retailers and supermarkets safely, efficiently and on time.
This is a genuine opportunity to shape the role around your strengths. Alongside leading day to day transport planning and haulier relationships, you will identify ways to improve the operating model, develop additional revenue opportunities during quieter periods and help create a more commercially sustainable year round operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all transport planning and route optimisation across the UK network
- Manage relationships with a small number of external hauliers and local delivery vehicles
- Ensure the safe, efficient and cost effective distribution of fragile horticultural products
- Develop routes and opportunities to increase distribution into Ireland
- Responsible for overseeing the import of finished goods into the UK
- Take ownership of transport performance, service levels, costs and carrier accountability
- Review how unused warehouse and greenhouse capacity can generate income during quieter trading periods
- Identify opportunities to improve the business model and create a stronger twelve month operation
- Work closely with internal teams to improve production, collation and distribution processes
- Support the future development of route planning systems with an in house software team
- Build and develop a logistics team as the operation grows
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior logistics, transport or distribution management role
- Strong route planning, carrier management and transport cost control experience
- Comfortable operating in a hands on role while contributing at a strategic level
- Experience handling time sensitive, fragile, perishable or specialist products would be advantageous
- Commercially minded, with the ability to spot opportunities to reduce costs or generate revenue
- Confident building relationships with hauliers, suppliers and internal stakeholders
