Our client is a global manufacturing business with an outstanding reputation for innovation, quality and customer partnership. Operating internationally, they supply bespoke solutions to many of the UK's leading food manufacturers and processors.

Following continued investment and growth, they are looking to appoint a National Business Development Manager to join their commercial team. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven sales professional who thrives on winning new business and enjoys developing long-term strategic customer relationships.

The Role

This is a national field-based role with a strong emphasis on business development. Whilst you'll inherit a small portfolio of existing customers to help you understand the products, internal processes and customer base, your primary focus will be identifying, developing and converting new opportunities.

Working closely with senior leadership, you'll target food manufacturers, processors and packers, introducing bespoke solutions that require a consultative, project-led sales approach. Success in this role is built on understanding customer challenges, creating value and developing opportunities from initial contact through to implementation.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys building something, spotting opportunities others overlook and bringing fresh ideas into an established, market-leading business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and win new business across the UK food sector.
  • Build relationships with food manufacturers, processors and packing businesses.
  • Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting through to commercial agreement.
  • Develop existing customer relationships while maintaining a strong focus on new business generation.
  • Work collaboratively with internal technical and commercial teams to deliver tailored customer solutions.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities and contribute innovative ideas to support business growth.
  • Maintain a proactive sales approach, achieving a minimum of eight meaningful customer meetings or calls each week.

About You

We're looking for a genuine hunter. Someone who enjoys opening doors, creating opportunities and converting prospects into long-term customers.

You'll be commercially astute, proactive and naturally curious, with the ability to identify opportunities where others see obstacles. Whether you're recognising changing market trends or uncovering unmet customer needs, you'll enjoy finding new ways to grow the business.

Experience within manufacturing is essential, with exposure to supplying the food manufacturing sector highly desirable.

You will likely have:

  • A proven track record in a business development or hunter sales role.
  • Experience selling into food manufacturers, processors or related industrial markets.
  • A background within manufacturing or a technically led sales environment.
  • Experience managing both longer-term project sales and shorter sales opportunities.
  • Strong commercial awareness and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated with the resilience to develop opportunities from cold prospect through to contract award.
  • Creative thinking and the confidence to challenge conventional approaches to winning business.
