Operations Manager - Freight Forwarding & Operations
Location: Houston TX
Salary: $75,000 - $80,000
Full-time, Permanent
We are partnering with a well-established and growing logistics organisation seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and support their freight forwarding operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a strong background in international logistics across air, ocean, and road freight.
The Role
You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day logistics function while actively managing international shipments end-to-end. This includes coordinating transport, managing customs processes, leading a team, and driving operational efficiency.
You'll play a key role in ensuring high service standards, improving supply chain performance, and supporting business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Freight Forwarding & Operations
- Manage import/export shipments across air, ocean, and road freight
- Coordinate shipments from origin to destination, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery
- Liaise with clients, carriers, and global partners
- Oversee customs clearance and ensure full regulatory compliance
- Prepare and manage shipping documentation and operational data
- Source and negotiate freight rates
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the logistics team
- Allocate workloads and manage performance
- Create a high-performing, customer-focused environment
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs
- Monitor routes, transit times, and overall supply chain performance
- Implement solutions to mitigate operational risks
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with clients and partners
- Resolve issues quickly to maintain service levels
- Support growth through value-added service
Reporting & Financial Oversight
- Manage departmental budgets and control costs
- Produce reports on performance and key metrics
- Analyse data to support decision-making
Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all customs, legal, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
About You
Essential:
- Proven experience in freight forwarding (air, ocean, and/or road)
- Strong knowledge of import/export procedures and customs regulations
- Leadership experience within a logistics or supply chain environment
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management ability
- Proficient in logistics systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Commercial awareness with strong numerical and analytical skills
Desirable:
- Qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, or similar
- Experience with customs brokerage
- Project management experience
- Strong industry network
- Experience in client-facing roles
