Role Profile
Our client is looking for an experienced Senior / Strategic Buyer to support the Purchasing Manager in a newly created strategic arm of a new Rail Company. The role in question will undertake critical interfaces between the Company and the supply base in the propagation of the strategy for purchasing. They will have a critical input into new or overhauled procurement initiatives and policies to help create procurement excellence. They will exhibit drive for personal development within procurement. They will continually evaluate and monitor the supply base for fitness for purpose, pursuing alternative sources where required. They will build partnerships with key suppliers who fit the portfolio. They will research and monitor their nominated commodities to ensure they can act on favourable changes, as well as mitigate forecasted risks. They will drive for cost savings and consider life cycle costs and value when undertaking sourcing activities. They will undertake responsibility for the procurement input into emerging bids and project mobilisation and will liaise closely with the project teams during the subsequent stages to support addressing any emerging issues. They will have excellent commercial awareness and strong, demonstrable negotiation skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Becoming an expert in your assigned commodities, maintaining knowledge of market and industry trends, developing technologies and alternative sourcing options
* Drive for personal development within procurement
* Building partnerships with key suppliers, undertaking regular business reviews
* Working closely with project teams to address emerging issues and act as an escalation point
* Actively seeking cost savings and contributing to a cost savings database
* Anticipating and actively managing risk within the supply chain
* Developing and overhauling strategic policies and initiatives with the Strategic Purchasing Manager and ensuring adherence
* Negotiation and contract management. Ensuring a value-based, life-cycle approach to sourcing and supplier selection
* Offering key support for emerging bids to the Commercial team
* Management of the mobilisation phase of projects
* Managing and reporting on key KPI's and actively monitoring material spend versus budget for projects
Skills & Experience
To be successful in the role, you must be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:
* Educated to Degree level or equivalent and/or Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply
* Experienced in a strategic procurement role within a manufacturing environment
* Capable of autonomous working as well as team collaboration
* Demonstrably results driven
