A major UK logistics operation is seeking an experienced and ambitious Assistant General Manager to support the delivery of a large-scale, fast-paced warehousing contract across two nearby sites in Cambridgeshire.

This is a high-profile operational leadership role within a complex ambient food environment, offering the opportunity to make a significant impact within a business undergoing substantial operational transformation and growth.

The Opportunity

Reporting into the Regional General Manager, you will play a critical role in driving operational performance, leading change initiatives, and helping build a high-performing management culture across two warehouse operations.

The wider operation handles significant annual throughput and is heavily focused on data-led decision making, automation projects, systems implementation, and continuous improvement.

This role is ideal for a hands-on operational leader who can hit the ground running, bring structure and presence to a developing team, and help reduce the day-to-day operational burden on the senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the leadership and performance of two warehouse sites operating under the same customer contract
  • Drive operational excellence across a multi-user, case-pick, consolidation-focused environment
  • Lead and motivate operational teams through a significant programme of change management
  • Embed a culture of accountability, performance measurement, and data-driven decision making
  • Support ongoing automation initiatives and technology adoption across the operation
  • Work closely with senior leadership to improve efficiency, service delivery, and operational stability
  • Help build and develop a newly formed management structure and team culture
  • Contribute to systems and process improvements including WMS and AI-driven platform implementation

About You

We are looking for an individual with strong operational presence, leadership maturity, and the ability to influence and inspire teams within a demanding logistics environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven leadership experience within logistics, warehousing, or supply chain operations
  • Strong change management capability
  • Excellent people leadership and motivational skills
  • A data-driven mindset with strong systems and computer literacy
  • Experience working with SAP and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
  • Exposure to automation projects or operational technology implementation
  • The ability to operate effectively within a fast-moving, high-pressure environment
  • A long-term mindset and desire to grow within the business over the next 10-15 years

The Operation

  • Ambient food warehousing environment
  • High-complexity, case-pick and consolidation operation
  • Two-site responsibility within close proximity
  • Large-scale contract with significant operational volume
  • Major investment in systems, automation, and AI-driven platforms

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious operational leader looking to step into a highly visible role with genuine long-term progression potential.
