ROLE OVERVIEW

An opportunity has arisen for a Transport Planner to join a busy and fast-paced transport and logistics environment. The successful candidate will support fleet operations by coordinating collections and deliveries, optimising routes, and ensuring schedules run efficiently and in compliance with relevant transport regulations.

This role involves close collaboration with drivers, customers, and subcontractors to manage day-to-day transport activities, resolve issues, and maximise fleet utilisation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and schedule collections and deliveries in line with customer requirements
  • Communicate effectively with drivers regarding routes, delays, and operational matters
  • Liaise with customers to manage expectations and resolve delivery-related issues
  • Source and coordinate subcontractors when necessary
  • Ensure compliance with driver hours, Working Time Directive, and transport legislation
  • Conduct driver briefings and debriefings, ensuring all documentation is accurate
  • Optimise fleet usage to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness
  • Maintain accurate transport records and complete relevant reports
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance, servicing, and compliance requirements
  • Manage transport-related administrative tasks and update planning systems

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience in a transport or logistics planning environment
  • Good understanding of driver hours, tachograph regulations, and working time rules
  • Strong IT skills, including experience with transport or planning systems
  • Knowledge of health and safety within transport operations
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and perform well under pressure
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Experience coordinating drivers or teams
  • Commercial awareness with a focus on cost-efficient planning
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently
