North West

Role Profile
My client, an established clothing retailer, is looking for a Junior Buyer to join their head office based in the North West. Reporting into the Director, you will develop and manage menswear ranges that meet company objectives in terms of market position, brand, quality and price while achieving sales, stock and profit targets and KPI's. Working closely with the talented design team, you will pull together commercial ranges and there may be the opportunity to travel to business-owned factories in the Far East. The business is going through some exciting changes with a new senior leadership team that are looking to drive expansion and create a dynamic, lively and supportive team. This is a brilliant opportunity for a proactive and enthusiastic Assistant or Junior Buyer to join a down to earth and friendly team/ business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the product ranges and presentation in line with agreed product strategy, brand and store values, ensuring the ranges represent the agreed image and value levels
  • Utilise historical data and trends to plan and implement the product strategy for areas in conjunction with the merchandising team in order to meet the agreed sales, margin and stock objectives
  • Working with the product development team to develop the plan and implementation of the strategy for margin growth assuring security of supply/ risk assessment are fully incorporated
  • Drive the front-end product development strategy and implementation cross functionally ensuring progress of sampling/ fabric/ pricing in line with date required for progress and sign off meeting i.e. all elements of range planning/ range development
  • Ensure range plans, product brief, design brief, fabric brief, fit sessions, colour issues etc. are completed in full to agreed dates within the critical path and are progressed effectively internally and externally
  • Ensure amendments to any of the aspects mentioned above are communicated effectively and in full both internally and externally
  • To establish and maintain appropriate standards of quality, ensuring correct garment composition and construction
  • To develop products and presentation of suitable promotional and "deal" products in line with the plans in the range planning processes
  • To take necessary action to ensure achievement of terminal stock, margin and mark down targets
  • To develop detailed plans to meet sales, margin and mark down target
  • Work with MD and Designers to ensure effective planning and implementation of window strategy/ visuals/ photography, range manuals and layout guideline etc.
  • Ensure process of continuous review of product performance and trends to maximize sales and margin on season and forward and appropriate action taken
  • To establish and maintain sound business relationships with Suppliers, providing effective management, evaluation and development of the supplier base
  • Negotiate best price deals
  • Review and deliver stock and sales performance plus trends forecast
  • Ensure a thorough knowledge of the stores/ competition/ opportunities/ threats etc. through store visits and ongoing detailed market study
  • Prepare and submit for approval any cost expenditure and maintain cost budget
